Intercontinental Hotels Group has debuted its Voco brand in the Americas, with the addition of The Franklin New York to the portfolio.

The 50-room hotel was originally built in the 1930s, and has recently undergone “an extensive renovation” programme, with rooms now featuring 49-inch TVs, free wifi and “spa-like” showers.

Voco The Franklin New York is the first of three US hotels set to join the Voco brand in the near future, with Voco Historic St Augustine and Voco The Tiger Hotel in Columbia set to be added in early 2021.

The brand launched in 2018, and of the 16 properties open worldwide so far, five of these are in the UK in locations including OxfordReading, Cardiff and Solihull. The brand’s first Scottish hotel is also set to open in Edinburgh early next year.

IHG recently announced plans for the first Voco property in Qatar, with the existing Rabban Suites West Bay Doha (which previously operated as a Fraser Suites) set to be rebranded as the Voco Doha West Bay Suites in the first quarter of 2021.

Commenting on the news Ginger Taggart, vice president, global Crowne Plaza and Voco Americas, IHG, said:

“We’re thrilled to bring the Voco brand to the critical American market. The historic design, modern upgrades and inviting ambience are a perfect blend of old and new.

“Our guests will love the fresh, modern design that still honours the iconic heritage property, and also will appreciate the cleanliness and sustainability measures that ensure a responsible stay.

“Whether you travel for work or pleasure, Voco – The Franklin New York celebrates everything we love about New York City while giving guests the confidence and comfort they need for a world-class stay in an exciting new brand.”
