Intercontinental Hotels Group has added the first property under its Voco brand in Northern Europe.

The former Holiday Inn Villach in Austria’s southern Carinthia province has been reflagged as the Voco Villach.

Located alongiside the Drau river the city centre hotel features 130 rooms and five suites with 55-inch TVs and bedside USB ports, as well as Lagana restaurant and bar with outdoor terrace.

The property is also directly connected to Congress Centre Villach, which offers nine meeting and events spaces accommodating between 20 and 1,060 guests.

Voco Villach will be joined in the Northern European region by the Voco Dusseldorf Seestern later this year, followed by Voco The Hague next spring and Voco Frankfurt Airport West in 2022.

The Voco brand launched in 2018, with properties in Australia’s Gold Coast and Hunter Valley among the first to join the collection, and a Sydney hotel also under development.

Of the dozen Voco properties open worldwide so far, five of these are in the UK in locations including OxfordReading, Cardiff and Solihull. The brand’s first Scottish hotel is also set to open in Edinburgh early next year.

Earlier this month IHG also announced the rollout of the brand into the US and China.

Commenting on the news Kerstin Fritz, general manager, Voco Villach said:

“We are delighted to be the first hotel in Northern Europe and the first hotel in Austria to join the Voco family.

“Our hotel offers guests the opportunity to relax in a rural setting whilst only being a few steps away from the city centre with its rich cultural history, the Villach Congress Centre, many crystal-clear bathing lakes, golf courses, bike paths and majestic mountain peaks.

“Voco is all about delivering a great guest experience and we look forward to offering a warm welcome to guests, old and new, when they choose to stay with us.”
