Intercontinental Hotels Group is continuing the roll out of its upscale Voco brand, with five forthcoming properties in the US and China.

Three conversion Voco hotels have been signed in New York City, St Augustine (Florida) and Columbia (Missouri).

The first of these is set to be the existing Franklin Hotel in New York’s Upper East Side, followed by Voco Historic St Augustine and Voco The Tiger Hotel in Columbia.

Meanwhile IHG is also set to add its first Voco-branded property in Greater China, with a hotel set to open in Hangzhou “very soon”. This will be followed by a Voco Wuhan Xinhua next year.

The Voco brand launched in 2018, with properties in Australia’s Gold Coast and Hunter Valley among the first to join the collection, and a Sydney hotel also under development.

Of the 12 Voco properties open worldwide so far, five of these are in the UK in locations including OxfordReading, Cardiff and Solihull. The brand’s first Scottish hotel is also set to open in Edinburgh early next year.

There are now 36 properties either open or in the pipeline across the EMEAA region, with forthcoming destinations including Paris, Sydney, Melbourne, Frankfurt, Edinburgh, Krakow, DaNang and Den Haag.

Commenting on the news Keith Barr, chief executive officer, IHG, said:

“There’s currently a big appetite from owners to join the IHG family and tap into the power of our enterprise as the strength, resilience and attractiveness of our brands really shine through in the current environment.

“Voco is leading a trend towards conversions, which we’re seeing across the full breadth of our portfolio and accounted for a quarter of IHG’s signings overall in the first half of 2020.

“We’re excited to be bringing Voco to the US and China, as we continue to grow it successfully in our other key markets across the world.

“The brand’s sleep experience, thoughtful interior design, informal service and focus on sustainability have really resonated with guests and we’re looking forward to bringing the Voco experience to life in our two largest markets.”
