Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) has announced that the latest addition to its growing Voco brand will be in Johannesburg.

The 131-room Voco The Bank will open later this year in the city’s Rosebank suburb.

The new-build property is located by Rosebank metro station and will have direct access to Rosebank Mall.

It will have a two-floor restaurant, lounge and bar, as well as three meeting rooms fitting 80 people.

The hotel will be operated by Valor Hospitality Partners Africa.

IHG launched lifestyle brand Voco in 2018 and has been adding properties around the world.

These have primarily been reflagged from existing brands, including the Nassima Royal Hotel in Dubai, the Watermark Hotel in Australia’s Gold Coast, the De Vere Oxford, the Oxford Spires Four Pillars, the Millennium Madejski Hotel Reading, St Johns Hotel in Solihull and St David’s hotel in Cardiff.

New-build Voco openings are set for Auckland, Saudi Arabia and Sydney.

Voco was created by IHG as an upscale brand which allows properties to have more of an individual character than its standardised brands.

Common elements include full-sized Aveda toiletries, a yellow and blue colour scheme, a social area and a welcome gift on arrival, such as freshly-baked Welsh cakes in Cardiff or a marmalade and chocolate tart in Oxford.
