Los Angeles has become the latest Lufthansa destination to welcome back the A380.

The carrier’s superjumbo is now operating daily flights between Munich and Los Angeles, offering increased capacity with a total of 8 seats in first class, 78 in business class, 52 in premium economy and 371 in economy.

Schedules see the A380 depart Munich at 1200 and landing into LA at 1615, before returning at 1830 and arriving back into the German city at 1340 the following day.

Lufthansa recently announced plans to serve five destinations from Munich with its superjumbo next summer, including Delhi and Washington DC for the first time.

The airline placed its entire fleet of 14 A380s into storage following the onset of Covid-19, and subsequently put six of the double decker aircraft up for sale.

In June 2022 Lufthansa announced it would bring an undeclared number of its superjumbos back into service as travel demand returned following the lifting of Covid restrictions, and the first of the airline’s A380s was reactivated in January this year.

Six superjumbos will be stationed at Munich airport next summer, rising to eight A380s from 2025.

The carrier’s CEO Carsten Spohr recently outlined plans to keep the superjumbos in service until the early 2030s, with the aircraft set to be retrofitted with Lufthansa’s latest Allegris business class product.
