Amtrak is investing $4 million refreshing its premier Acela Express trains.
Over the course of the next ten months, the US national passenger railroad corporation will install new carpeting, seat cushions and seat covers on all 100 Acela train cars, as well as giving each car a deep clean.
“Customers expect a premium experience when they board an Acela Express train, and these updated interior features will provide a more comfortable, refreshed look and feel – whether you want to relax, move about freely, work or play,” said Amtrak CEO and President Richard Anderson.
The first of the refurbished trains will enter into service this month, with others rolling out on a monthly basis until March 2019. No interruptions in service are expected as a result of the project.
Amtrak operates 20 high-speed Acela trainsets in the Northeast Corridor between Boston and Washington DC.
The entire fleet of existing Acela Express trains is expected to be replaced by 2022 — Amtrak will test out a next-generation passenger train car beginning in 2019.
