Marriott International will add a flagship property under its Marriott Hotels and Resorts brand this spring.

The former Macdonald Hotel Manchester was acquired by Zetland Capital Partners under a management agreement with Hamilton Pyramid in 2021, and is currently trading as the Manchester Piccadilly Hotel while it undergoes a £33 million refurbishment and rebranding project.

The 338-room property is located next to Manchester Piccadilly Station, and will reflag as the Manchester Marriott Hotel Piccadilly, joining the existing Manchester Marriott Victoria & Albert Hotel as the second property under the brand in the city.

Features include a restaurant and bar, function space, 11 meeting rooms, fitness centre and an Elemis spa with six treatment rooms and a thermal suite. Marriott said that the interior design of guestrooms had been inspired by the neighbourhood’s industrial and music heritage.

The hotel will also offer a 24/7 MClub Lounge for Platinum Elite, Titanium Elite, and Ambassador Elite Marriott Bonvoy members.

Manchester Marriott Hotel Piccadilly will join the group’s other Manchester property including Moxy Manchester City, AC Hotel Manchester City Centre, Residence Inn Manchester Piccadilly, AC Hotel Manchester Salford Quays, Delta Hotels Manchester Airport, Delta Hotels Worsley Park Country Club and Hotel Football Old Trafford, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel.

In October it was confirmed that Marriott is to open a W property within the mixed use St Michael’s development on Jackson’s Row in Manchester’s city centre.

Commenting on the news Stephen Rycroft, general manager of Manchester Marriott Hotel Piccadilly, said:

“We are excited to be part of this important renovation in the city, leading the way to bring the flagship Marriott brand to this grand hotel – grand in both innovative design and size; making it the largest hotel in Manchester city centre once complete.

“With a planned launch for spring, we are really looking forward to sharing our elevated hospitality with experiences that are sure to captivate both business and leisure guests alike.”
