One United Properties has unveiled plans to open a Mondrian hotel in the Romanian capital Bucharest.

The group has signed a memorandum of understanding with Ennismore to develop a building at 8-10 Georges Clemenceau Street – close to the city’s Romanian Athenaeum concert hall – into the Mondrian Bucharest.

The project is part of One United Properties’ wider plans for the city, with the group also having acquired another building on Georges Clemenceau Street, as well as One Downtown (which includes the former Hotel Muntenia).

“The exclusive negotiations with Ennismore, the fastest-growing lifestyle hospitality company in the world, target the opening of Mondrian Bucharest, a stylish, modern and luxurious hotel, with chic design and vibrant social scene,” said Victor Capitanu, Co-CEO One United Properties.

“This will be a significant milestone in redefining luxury and the hotel landscape in Bucharest and marks our company’s debut on the hospitality market.

“Mondrian Bucharest will become for sure a landmark for the city and will help increase tourism to our capital and to our country. This collaboration is a statement of our commitment to growing the attractiveness of Bucharest as a European capital.”

A joint venture with Accor, Ennismore has been steadily growing the Mondrian brand, with the Mondrian Singapore Duxton opening earlier this year, and the brand’s first UAE property set to open in Abu Dhabi next year.
