Dalata Hotel Group has added its first property in the Netherlands, following the acquisition of a leasehold interest in Hard Rock Hotel Amsterdam American.

The hotel is located on the corner of Leidsekade Canal and Leidseplein Square, and is now known as the Clayton Hotel Amsterdam American.

The four-star property features 173 rooms, a lobby bar, fitness centre, and Cafe and Bar Americain.

Housed within a UNESCO Heritage protected building which was built in 1903, the property was formerly home to the American Hotel, and only joined the Hard Rock collection of hotels in 2020.

Dalata said it would invest €4.5 million in the property over the coming years, including “a substantial investment in its sustainability credentials, which will result in a significant reduction in the carbon footprint of the property”.

Clayton Hotel Amsterdam American joins the Clayton Hotel Dusseldorf as the group’s second property in continental Europe.

It’s the second European Hard Rock Hotel to debrand this year, following the return of the Hard Rock Hotels London to the Cumberland name in May.

Shane Casserly, corporate development director, said that “Amsterdam has been a priority location for Dalata since we commenced our journey into continental Europe”.

“To have acquired such an attractive existing hotel, in a city which has traditionally high barriers of entry, is a testament to our standing in the market and a credit to all involved across the Group,” added Casserly.
