Dalata Hotel Group is to add its fifth property in London, following the acquisition of the existing Apex Hotel London Wall.

The £53.4 million deal will see the hotel reflagged under Dalata’s Clayton brand.

The 89-room property is located on Copthall Avenue, close to Moorgate and Liverpool Street tube stations. It originally opened in 2009, with Business Traveller last reviewing the hotel back in 2010.

Ireland’s largest hotel operator has a portfolio of around 50 three and four-star properties across its Clayton and Maldron brands.

The group currently operates two hotels in London – Clayton Hotel Chiswick and Clayton Hotel City of London (which had originally been slated to be a Hotel Indigo property).

Dalata is also set to open the Maldron Hotel Finsbury Park this month, followed by the Maldron Hotel Shoreditch in 2024.

Once all five hotels are in operation Dalata will offer a total of 877 rooms across the UK capital.

Commenting on the news Dermot Crowley, CEO of Dalata Hotel Group plc, said:

“London is one of the world’s great cities. Securing existing hotels or sites to develop new hotels is very challenging as a result. I am delighted that we have managed to secure two new hotels in the city in the space of just four months.

“It demonstrates our ability to re-invest the funds that we generate from our existing hotels. We look forward to welcoming our new colleagues into the Dalata family.”

The sale leaves Apex with two London properties – Apex Temple Court Hotel and Apex City of London Hotel – as well as locations in Bath, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
