Virgin Trains Ticketing has improved the time it takes the service to credit Virgin Points on eligible journeys.

Up until now Virgin Red members could expect to receive their Virgin Points 56 days after travel, but this has now been slashed to just seven days.

Members earn three points per £1 spent on train tickets through the Virgin Trains Ticketing app, and since July it has also been possible to redeem points against rail travel, starting from 200 points for a £1 discount, up to 50,000 points for a £250 discount.

Virgin Red adds option to redeem points against rail ticket purchases

Virgin said that more than 10.5 million Virgin Points had been redeemed against rail travel discounts since the new option went live.

Earlier this month Virgin introduced a new flat rate for Virgin Red and Flying Club members looking to transfer points to family and friends.

Members will now pay a flat rate of £10 per transfer, with no limit to the amounts of points which can be moved to another member.

The new system replaces the previous rates of £15 per transfer plus £7.50 for every 1,000 points transferred.
