Marriott’s first W Hotels property in Scotland is finally set to open this winter, some seven years after plans for the hotel were first announced.

The group’s website confirms that W Edinburgh will open in November 2023, with rooms available for booking from the middle of the month.

The 244-room hotel was first announced back in 2016 (when the brand was still operated by Starwood Hotels prior to its merger with Marriott), and features a distinct spiral ribbon exterior.

It forms part of the mixed use St James Quarter in Edinburgh’s East End, which also comprises an aparthotel property under the Roomzzz brand.

As we reported back in 2020, W Edinburgh will feature a rooftop restaurant by Japanese-Brazilian-Peruvian fusion brand SUSHISAMBA, as well as Joao’s Place cocktail bar, the brand’s signature W Lounge, a fitness centre and spa facilities.

The hotel will join W London (which opened back in 2011) as just the second UK property under the brand.

The imminent opening of W Edinburgh follows the high profile launch of the Virgin Hotels brand in the Scottish capital last year.
