Marriott International is set to debut its W Hotels brand in Milan later this year.
The 116-room W Milan will be housed within a 1950s building on Piazzetta Bossi, close to the city’s La Scala opera house.
Features will include Japanese restaurant Odach i, and a rooftop pool, lounge and skybar.
Plans to open a W property in Milan were first announced way back in 2007 (when the brand was still part of Starwood Hotels and Resorts), but an original location in the city’s Brera district was ultimately abandoned in favour of the above site.
W Milan will be the second hotel under the brand in Italy, joining W Rome which opened in 2021 in the city’s Via Liguria, next to the Spanish Steps.
A property is also under development in Florence, and last year Marriott signed an agreement a second Milan hotel, as well as the 78-room W Naples.
The forthcoming W Milan Duomo will be located in a former bank, built in the 1920s, with design by Milan-based architects Stefano Boeri Architetti and international design firm Yabu Pushelberg.
The 166-room hotel will offer a rooftop bar and restaurant, as well as a 380 sqm spa with an indoor pool and fitness centre.
