Lounge provider Aspire has announced plans for a £1.2 million refurbishment and expansion of its Belfast City airport facility.

The existing space is set to be increased to accommodate a total of 178 seats, adding capacity for an additional 70 guests.

Aspire has partnered with DV8 Designs for the revamp, which will be carried out in phases to allow the lounge to stay open throughout the works, and the completed redesign set to be unveiled “later this year”.

Features will include “a blend of tile and slatted curved screens, plush upholstery design seating, and enclosed private booths for additional privacy”, as well as table side charging facilities, complimentary food and drinks, and views of the airport’s runway.

New LED lighting is also set to be installed, inspired by the Giant’s Causeway on the north coast of Northern Ireland.

Commenting on the news Graham Allen, head of Aspire Lounges UK and Ireland, said:

“Aspire is delighted to be partnering once again with DV8 Designs on the redevelopment of our lounge at Belfast City Airport.

“This exciting project will enable Aspire to maximise its use of the space and modernise the facility to not only meet, but exceed the expectations of our guests.

“DV8 consistently goes above and beyond to ensure each project embodies the ‘Aspire Way’, combining our striking branding with a peaceful atmosphere and our outstanding customer service.

“Our lounge at Belfast City Airport will be designed with our new identity at its foundations; recognisably Aspire with a distinct sense of place.”

There is currently only one airport lounge at Belfast City airport – British Airways has previously operated a lounge adjacent to the Aspire lounge, and it’s unclear if the expanded facility will be taking over the old BA lounge.
