Swissport is set to open its second Aspire lounge at Perth airport next week.

The Terminal 1 facility – which is also the airport’s first pay-per-use international lounge, will be unveiled on March 10, following the reopening of Western Australia’s borders this week.

The new facility joins Aspire’s existing Terminal 2 domestic lounge at Perth airport, which opened in August 2021.

The new lounge is housed within the former Control Centre on level 3 of Perth airport’s Terminal 1, and offers views of the airfield and Perth skyline.

Services will include buffet dining, showers with products from Aboriginal owned company Boodjera, and a business lounge with “comfortable office chairs” and charging outlets.

There is also a “giant quokka” (a marsupial native to Rottnest Island off Perth) for guests to take selfies next to.

Local artists have contributed to the design of the lounge, with photographic artist Michael Haluwana providing Western Australian landscapes and seascapes, and Indigenous artist Barry McGuire creating installations including six glass panels close to the entry, which represent the Six Noongar Seasons, and an Indigenous message stick with 14 designs representing the Noongar Language Groups.

Pre-booked entry costs A$66 (A$77 for walk-up entry), and Priority Pass members will have access to the facility through the lounge provider’s portfolio.

Swissport said that initial opening hours for the lounge “will reflect key partner airline schedules which are likely to be limited in the first few months after borders open and will grow over time”.

Commenting on the news Swissport’s Australasia managing director Brad Moore, said:

“We are delighted to unveil one of the world’s most stunning airport lounges, celebrating the best of Western Australia with the work of local artists, local wines and local wildlife.

“Perth locals will enjoy the panoramic views of their airport and surrounds with rich colours, luxury fittings, giving travellers a perfect start to their journeys. West Australians have missed international travel for more than two years and as Australians start flying overseas, many of them will be thinking about how they can make their journeys as memorable as possible.

“Our aim is to leave a strong, lasting impression on visitors, with so many comfortable spaces, local flavours, and experiences designed to surprise and delight.

“The opening of the Perth Airport international Aspire lounge at T1 marks an important milestone in the expansion of our global lounge network and in our growth in Asia-Pacific.”

The Perth Terminal 1 lounge will be Aspire’s fifth in Australia, joining the Terminal 2 facility at the same airport, as well as The House by Aspire lounges in Sydney and Melbourne, and the My Lounge by Aspire at Brisbane airport, which will reopen “in the coming months”.
