Hyatt has opened the first property under its Thompson Hotels brand in the US capital.
The 225-room Thompson Washington DC is situated in the city’s Navy Yard district, within a 42-acre development on the waterfront of the Anacostia River, which also offers residential and office space, as well as shops, restaurants, craft breweries.
The 11-storey new-build hotel features signature restaurant Maialino Mare, focusing on “seafood-forward pastas and other seasonally-inspired dishes sourced from local farmers and fishmongers, complemented by a robust Italian wine list and rustic desserts”.
The adjacent Thompson Bar Room offers “cozy bar and booth seating”, and rooftop bar Anchovy Social will open “in the weeks to come”, and will feature seasonal cocktails and shareable bites.

Other facilities include fitness and business centres, and over 7,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor function space, including a private dining room and wine room.
Thompson Hotels joined Hyatt last year, following the group’s purchase of lifestyle hotel management company Two Roads Hospitality. The lifestyle brand also joined the World of Hyatt loyalty programme in March 2019.
Thompson currently has properties in New York, Nashville, Seattle, Chicago, Los Cabos, Playa del Carmen and Zihuatanejo on Mexico’s Pacific Coast, with forthcoming destinations including Dallas, Denver and San Antonio.
