Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) has announced plans to open a new-build Holiday Inn Express in downtown Washington DC.

Scheduled to open towards the end of 2020, the 247-room hotel will be near the Mount Vernon Triangle Metro station and the Walter E Washington Convention Center.

The property will feature a business centre, gym, onsite parking, 140 sqm of meeting space and a complimentary hot breakfast bar.

Holiday Inn Express, which IHG describes as “basics done brilliantly”, is the UK-based group’s fastest-growing brand. It totals more than 2,700 properties globally, with 790 in development.

Joel Eisemann, IHG’s chief development officer for the Americas, commented: “We are pleased to further establish the Holiday Inn Express brand presence in a premiere urban market such as Washington DC, and to serve the visitors of this historic city.”
