Dakota Hotels has announced plans for its sixth UK property.

The 118-room Dakota Newcastle is scheduled to open in 2025, and will be situated on St Ann’s Wharf within a converted office block overlooking the riverside promenade.

Facilities will include the Grill restaurant, as well as a bar, Champagne Room and Cigar Terrace, and there will be a two-bedroom Grand Deluxe suite, which Dakota says will be “be the largest and most luxurious in the city”.

Dakota Hotels was founded in 2006 by hotelier Ken McCulloch, founder of the Malmaison brand, and also responsible for the Aviator Hotel at Farnborough airport.

There are currently five Dakota properties in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester and Eurocentral (a large industrial estate to the east of Glasgow city centre).

The group previously operated a hotel in Nottingham, but this was rebranded in 2009.

Commenting on the Newcastle development Andrew Ovenstone, managing director of Dakota Hotels, said:

“Newcastle promises to be an exciting addition to our portfolio, and we look forward to bringing our unique brand of hospitality to this great city.”

“These are exciting times for Dakota, and we have ambitious plans to bring luxury lifestyle experiences to destinations that matter most.”
