Due to the national lockdown restrictions, Innside Newcastle has postponed its opening until May 17, 2021.
Melia Hotels International has announced an opening date for Innside Newcastle, the brand’s second hotel in the UK. Spain’s largest hotel group will open the 161-room hotel in December, located in the city’s historical Quayside area.
The hotel will be close to Newcastle Railway Station and Newcastle International airport, with cultural sights such as The Biscuit Factory art gallery and Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art within walking distance.
Designed by Faulknerbrowns Architects, the hotel has drawn inspiration from local landmarks including the River Tyne’s bridges, while the interiors aim to provide a “home-from-home feel” with modern and comfortable furnishings in minimal and versatile spaces.
The hotel lobby is described as an open-plan “transitional space to allow guests to skip seamlessly from work to play”, with an Open Living Lounge serving food throughout the day alongside music by local DJs.
Facilities include a restaurant with floor-to-ceiling windows and an outdoor terrace offering views across the River Tyne, and a 24-hour gym with Technogym equipment.
Melia is promoting the hotel as suitable for business travellers, offering Workcation packages for remote workers. The hotel will also have five multi-functional meeting spaces with capacity for up to 170 banquet-style, including a Big Ideas Space with “smart, sustainable touches”.
As with all Melia’s properties, the Innside Newcastle will eliminate single-use paper and plastic, instead offering sustainable amenities and eco-friendly bedlinen and towels in the rooms.
Innside by Melia has hotels in 28 locations, with 13 properties in the pipeline. The group opened a property in Manchester in 2015, and is set to open Innside Liverpool in spring 2021.
