Travelodge has opened its 11th property in Ireland, and what it is referring to as the largest budget hotel in the country.

The 393-room Dublin City Centre Travelodge PLUS is situated on Townsend Street, and is the second largest hotel in Dublin city centre, and the first to feature Travelodge’s “premium economy” SuperRooms concept.

Award-winning Dublin street artist Shane Sutton was commissioned to create a nine-metre-high mural of a 19th-century diver overlooking the property’s heated outdoor terrace, paying homage to the hotel’s docklands location.

The hotel has a total of 175 SuperRooms, which offer upgraded amenities including Lavazza coffee machines, a larger desk and a Hansgrohe Raindance three-jet shower.

Travelodge also highlighted what it called “the gem of the hotel” – double height rooms on the seventh floor with “exceptional views of the city”.

The ground also features an open lobby with reception, work and relaxation zones, as well as the all day dining mossco bar and restaurant with outdoor terrace.

Operator Tifco used the opening of the property to confirm it had also revamped its Galway City Travelodge hotel to the group’s Travelodge PLUS specifications, adding 17 news rooms, upgrading 19 rooms to the SuperRooms concept, and renovated the property’s reception and Bar Café.

These two Travelodge PLUS hotels join the group’s other properties on the island of Ireland: Travelodge Dublin City Centre Rathmines, Travelodge Dublin Phoenix Park, Travelodge Dublin Airport North, Travelodge Dublin Airport South, Travelodge Belfast Central, Travelodge Limerick Ennis Road, Travelodge Limerick Castletroy, Travelodge Cork Airportn and Travelodge Waterford.

Commenting on the news Steve Bennett, Travelodge, chief property and development officer, said:

“We are delighted to open the largest branded budget hotel in Ireland in a key location in the heart of Dublin City Centre with Tifco. It is a magnificent  hotel and showcases just how far the budget hotel sector has grown over the last three decades.

“I would like to congratulate the Tifco team on a great job.  This opening marks a step change for budget hotels in Ireland.  Britain and Ireland are now a nation of budget travellers, with more of us choosing to stay in budget hotels than any other hotel type.

“Bringing Travelodge PLUS and SuperRooms to Ireland helps us to offer business and leisure travellers more choice whilst staying true to our mission to be the favourite hotel for value. As we look to the future we are looking forward to growing our hotel network across Ireland and we look forward to working with Tifco on our Irish estate.”

Earlier this year Travelodge announced it had completed phase 1 of its budget-luxe upgrade programme.
