Radisson Hotel Group has opened the fifth property under its Radisson Collection brand in Italy, and the second in Milan.
Radisson Collection Hotel, Santa Sofia Milan is housed within the 1960s former headquarters of Allianz Italia, situated at the intersection of Via Santa Sofia and Corso Italia in the city’s downtown.
The building has undergone a four-year transformation under architects Studio Marco Piva, retaining the original Veneto trachyte cladding and oxidized-copper pitched roof.
Facilities include 159 rooms and suites, a rooftop fine dining Japanese-Peruvian fusion restaurant, and a fitness centre, sauna and outdoor swimming pool and lounge bar.
Meanwhile all day dining restaurant Sofia Kitchen & Bar is housed in the former courtyard of the building which has now been covered by a glass roof.
Décor includes bold geometric floor patterns inspired by classic Milanese mansions, as well as “the green of Milanese fountains, streetcars, and 1960s taxis”.
The property joins the existing Radisson Collection Hotel, Palazzo Touring Club Milan, which opened in 2021 within the former headquarters of Italian national tourism organisation Touring Club Italiano.
Commenting on the news Chema Basterrechea, global president and chief operating officer at Radisson Hotel Group, said:
“Radisson Collection Hotel, Santa Sofia Milan is the perfect fifth Italian iteration of our Radisson Collection brand, and our second in Milan, as we continue expanding our portfolio of luxury hotels.
“As Radisson Hotel Group, we’re looking to give guests more options in Italy across different hotel brands, with 30 hotels by 2027 as an ambitious, but very much achievable target.”
