Aeroflot has temporarily left the Skyteam alliance, as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

A short message posted on the alliance’s website confirmed that:

“Skyteam and Aeroflot have agreed to temporarily suspend the airline’s Skyteam membership.

“We are working to limit the impact for customers and will inform those affected by any changes to Skyteam benefits and services.”

Aeroflot joined Skyteam in 2006, and at the time was the first Russian carrier to join one of the major airline alliances.

The move follows a similar suspension of Russian carrier S7 Airlines from the Oneworld alliance earlier this month.

The carrier stated that “Due to the restriction of international flights, the business interaction between S7 Airlines and the Oneworld alliance has been significantly reduced”.
