The 19th century Fulham Town Hall is to be transformed into a boutique hotel under the Room 2 brand.

The Grade II listed building is located on Fulham High Road close to Fulham Broadway Underground Station, and has been empty for over a decade.

Room 2 Fulham will form part of a development which will also offer event and co-working space, and is currently scheduled to open in 2022.

The 90-room hotel will join existing Room 2 properties in Southampton and London’s Hammersmith. Further hotels are also set to open in Belfast and London’s Chiswick later this year, followed by Liverpool and Manchester in 2022.

Business Traveller first reported on the brand back in 2016, which was described at the time as offering “apartment style rooms and a focus on friendly, community living”.

The website fulhamtownhall.com said that the hotel “is designed to push the boundaries of artistic rebellion and juxtapose with the Grade II listed building’s historic facade, with each room individually curated to appeal to the diverse range of guests”.

Ahead of the conversion, the property is opening its doors as a temporary art and exhibition space later this month.

‘Art in the Age of Now’ is a free event featuring works by over 100 local artists which have been created during lockdown. Tickets can be booked here.

Commenting on the news Robert Godwin, managing director of Lamington Group (owner of the Room 2 brand), said:

“Last year we had the opportunity to partner with developers Ziser London, and agreed a 30-year lease to operate the hotel space of this incredible historic building.

“It is important to us that the building is once again restored as the centre of the community, and so we wanted to take this opportunity to give people a final chance to see the building before it is redeveloped, while also providing an opportunity for London’s creative community after what has been a particularly challenging time.”
