American Airlines has introduced the Verifly health passport for travel to the US. Travellers on all international routes can benefit from the app, which streamlines verification of Covid-19 tests and other health documentation, starting January 23.

The Oneworld alliance carrier’s announcement follows an earlier trial on select routes from South America and the Caribbean. The airline said that thousands of customers have already travelled using the app.

Verifly can be downloaded from the Apple App store or Google Play. Travellers can then create an account, input a destination, and upload necessary documentation including a negative Covid-19 test result.

The app launch comes as the US plans to require a negative Covid-19 test result for all inbound travellers aged two and older beginning January 26.

Julie Rath, vice president of customer experience at American Airlines, said:

“We’re expanding our work with Verifly to quickly evolve our usage of the app and make international travel easier for our customers.

“We support the implementation of a global programme to require Covid-19 testing for travelers to the United States, and we want to do everything we can to make travel a seamless experience for customers. We’ve received positive feedback about the app so far and look forward to more customers having the opportunity to use it.”
