Dutch hotel group Citizen M has announced that it will open its fifth hotel in London’s Olympia in 2023.

The hotel will be located in the transformed Olympia London exhibition centre on Hammersmith Road, which is set to open in 2023 following a £1.3 billion regeneration led by Yoo Capital and Deutsche Finance International. The mixed-use development will also feature a live music venue owned by entertainment company AEG, a 196-room Hyatt Regency property (set to open in 2024) and conference centres.

Citizen M London Olympia will include 145 rooms, three meeting rooms, and a living room open to the public in the listed historic Apex room. Interiors will be designed by Amsterdam-based partner Concrete and will feature furniture from Vitra, one of Citizen M’s long-term collaborators.

Rooms will include the group’s XL king-sized beds, rain showers and large flat-screen TVs. On the tech side, guests will be able to use online check-in, experience a contactless stay via the app, and design their room using the mood pad room controls.

The redeveloped West London neighbourhood will also feature a four-screen arthouse cinema, over 7,400 sqm of performing arts space, a 1,500-seat theatre, restaurants, shops, and more than 51,000 sqm of office and co-working space.

The existing exhibition halls will undergo a renovation by Heatherwick Studio and SPPARC, and the design firms will also create 2.5 acres of new public space.

Klaas van Lookeren Campagne, CEO of CitizenM hotels, commented:

“We’re taking a strategic approach to expansion in London. Despite the current challenges in both the hotel and conference industries, we are confident in the positive future outlook for citizenM, and therefore Olympia London fitted the brief perfectly. We believe our offer of affordable luxury accommodation will appeal to visitors of the conference centre, as well as the theatre and music venues, and confirms our commitment to expand in London’s most desirable neighbourhoods.”

John Hitchcox, Chairman of Yoo Capital, added:

“Having citizenM as an anchor operator is a huge positive for the Olympia project. They are an ideal partner to have on board as we continue our work to transform this area into a destination for culture and creativity and today marks a major milestone towards the realisation of a new vision for Olympia London.”

The Olympia hotel will join the group’s three other hotels in London, which are located in Bankside, Shoreditch and Tower of London. A fourth hotel is currently under development in Victoria and is set to open in 2021.

The group currently counts 21 hotels across 14 cities in its global portfolio.
