Dutch hotel brand Citizen M has begun plans for expansion into Germany, with a new collaboration with GBI, the country’s largest hotel project developer.

The group said it is looking for “prime locations”… “in Germany’s top cities”, with Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich listed as the focus destinations.

Citizen M said that it plans to open several hotels in each city. In a press release the group said that “GBI and Citizen M will search for suitable properties and plots of land for the brand to acquire, and then develop turnkey Citizen M hotels together”.

Citizen M currently has 18 properties in its portfolio across Europe, North America and Asia, including three hotels in both London and Paris.

The French and English capital cities are set to welcome additional Citizen M hotels, with a 151-room property on rue de la Boétie close to the Champs-Élysées, and a 226-room hotel close to London Victoria station.

Lasat year the group also announced plans for properties in Seattle, Washington DC and Geneva.

And earlier this year the group confirmed plans to expand into Italy, with properties in both Rome and Milan.

Commenting on the news Citizen M’s CEO Klaas van Lookeren Campagne, said:

“It had been clear for some time that Germany, as Europe’s strongest economic country and a sought-after travel destination, would be one of our next targets, but we needed the right partner and consultant for our expansion. We are delighted to have found this with GBI.”
