Radisson Hotel Group has opened the first South African property under its Radisson brand, located around ten minutes’ drive from Johannesburg airport.

The Radisson Hotel and Convention Centre, Johannesburg, OR Tambo is situated in a compound which previously housed the Destiny Exclusive Hotel and Convention Centre.

The Radisson hotel is itself a new-build, and a standalone Amani Spa Centre is set to be constructed on the site of the old hotel. Meanwhile the existing adjacent convention centre is currently undergoing a soft refurb.

Facilities include 248 rooms, all day dining eatery The Avenue, fine dining restaurant Level Seven, 3rd and 6th cocktail bar, a fitness centre and two outdoor heated pools (one on the ground floor and another on the rooftop of the hotel).

The convention centre has a capacity for up to 1,260 guests in the main hall, as well as “six breakaway rooms, various smaller conference venues”, translation booths, lounges, board rooms, and a restaurant”. The hotel gardens are also available for outdoor events.

Commenting on the news Tim Cordon, senior area vice president, Middle East and Africa, Radisson Hotel Group, said:

“We are delighted to introduce our fourth brand, the fast-growing upscale, Radisson, to South Africa and open the doors of our twelfth hotel in the country. South Africa continues to be a key market for us with a robust pipeline of hotels scheduled to open within the next 24 months.

“Along with our first convention centre in the country and second in Africa, we believe the new Radisson Hotel and Convention Centre, Johannesburg, OR Tambo is the perfect showcase to introduce the Scandinavian-inspired Radisson brand to South Africa.”

The hotel joins three other Radisson properties in Johannesburg – the Radisson Blu Gautrain Hotel, Sandton Johannesburg, the Park Inn by Radisson Sandton, and the Radisson Blu Hotel Sandton, Johannesburg.
