Qatar Airways is offering free inflight wifi to all of its passengers over the next 100 days, to celebrate the carrier reaching 100 aircraft fitted with its ‘Super wifi’ service.

The promotion is valid for customers travelling in all fare classes until January 2, 2021.

The carrier began fitting the GX Aviation technology in 2018, and says it now offers “the largest number of aircraft equipped with the most superior high-speed broadband on board in Asia, the Middle East and North Africa”.

Passengers travelling on flights fitted with ‘Super wifi’ are usually entitled to one hour’s free access, with full-flight access available for purchase.

Commenting on the news Qatar Airways Group chief executive Akbar Al Baker, said:

“During these challenging times Qatar Airways continues to lead and innovate, providing our passengers with the five-star experience they have come to expect from the World’s Best Airline. We are delighted to bring high-speed broadband connectivity to all our loyal passengers for the duration of their flights, from departure to arrival.

“Not only does this showcase the exceptional five-star Qatar Airways service at a time when other airlines are using the current market challenges as a reason to reduce their wifi offerings.

“It also proves that our mission to connect people around the world does not start and end with just travel. We understand the importance, especially in recent months, of enabling people to be connected at all times, whether on-the-ground or 35,000ft in-the-air.”

This week it was confirmed that Qatar Airways has received funding of 7.3 billion riyals ($1.95 billion) from the Qatar government, as it recorded net losses of seven billion riyals ($1.9 billion) for the year to the end of March 2020.
