Wizz Air is planning to launch two new services from Birmingham airport to Romania next month.

Twice weekly flights to the country’s second largest city of Iasi are set to commence on October 23, followed by four flights per week to the historic university town of Craiova from October 24.

The new routes will bring the carrier’s network at Birmingham airport to ten destinations, joining Bucharest, Budapest, Cluj-Napoca, Krakow, Riga (from December 4), Vilnius (from December 5), Warsaw and Wroclaw.

Wizz Air has been steadily growing its presence at UK airports in recent months, with announcements including new routes from Luton and Liverpool, expansion at Doncaster Sheffield, and a new base at Gatwick.

However it is also reported that the carrier will operate at just 50 per cent capacity during October, due to the latest wave of travel restrictions across Europe.

Commenting on the new routes Owain Jones, managing director of Wizz Air UK said:

“We are delighted to be adding even more low-fare connections to our network from Birmingham Airport, providing our customers in the West Midlands with new opportunities to explore truly unique destinations.

“Iași and Craiova offer many cultural and architectural delights, as cities steeped in history. With our industry-leading health and safety measures, Wizz is getting the UK flying again and delivering on our promise of providing affordable travel for all.”
