Hotel group Selina has opened the first of several planned US properties, situated in New York’s Chelsea art district.
The 61-room Selina Chelsea is located on West 27th Street next to the city’s High Line elevated linear park, and features all-day café Lady Mara, a first floor outdoor garden area, and a rooftop restaurant, bar, pool and terrace.
The hotel showcases works by Latinx artists, with guests able to purchase in-room artwork, and weekly interactive events include “drag queen story hour, nude drawing classes by portrait and figurative artist John MacConnell and monthly music residencies”.

Selina launched in 2015, and currently operates more than 50 locations in countries including Argentina, Brazil, Columbia, Mexico, Panama and Peru.
The group opened its first UK properties in Manchester and Birmingham last year, with hotels also under development in Liverpool and Brighton.
Forthcoming locations in the US include Miami and New Orleans, with Selina targeting 400+ locations and 130,000 beds worldwide by 2023.
Commenting on the news Selina’s co-founder and CEO Rafael Museri said:
“Sparking connections between guests and celebrating local communities around the world is at the core of the Selina platform, and we’re passionate about bringing a fresh hospitality experience to New York City.”
