Pestana Hotel Group will open a 95-room hotel in Manhattan in January 2020.
It will be the Portuguese group’s 100th property and its second in the US following Miami.
Located on 39th Street, the Pestana Park Avenue building was designed by architects Gene Kaufman Associates, while interiors are by Glen and Company.
The 27 floors will only have three or four rooms on each level, and rooms will have bespoke interiors and large windows. Some will have balconies and views of the Empire State Building.
Design features include Portuguese-made light fixtures and headboards, custom throws evoking traditional tiles, and photography by Cátia Castel-Branco.
All rooms will have full-length rotating mirrors with hangers attached, TVs, USB sockets and high-speed wifi.
The lobby has a fireplace and seating area, and a “home-like” dining area will serve tea, coffee and complimentary breakfast items, including pastéis de nata (a traditional Portuguese egg tart pastry).
During the rest of the day it will be open for socializing or working.
Meanwhile an outdoor courtyard will feature a mural design by Portuguese artist Manuel Cargaleirom.
Rates are set to begin at $179 per night.
Pestana has one London property, the Pestana Chelsea Bridge opposite Battersea Power Station, which opened in February 2010 and was reviewed by Business Traveller later that year.
