Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) has announced plans to launch the first Avid hotel in Europe at Frankfurt Airport in 2021.

The new midscale brand is designed for new builds, and construction on the Frankfurt property will begin later this year. The hotel will feature 215 guest rooms spread across five storeys and will also include underground parking. It will be operated by Germany-based Sirius Hospitality Holding.

Hotel features include complimentary wifi, black out shades in bedrooms and 24-hour marketplaces with food, drink and everyday essentials.

“The first signing in Germany for our new high-quality mainstream brand demonstrates further momentum for Avid hotels. New hotel signings continue to exceed expectations, with more than 170 signings across the US, Canada, Mexico and now Germany,” said Mario Maxeiner, Managing Director Northern Europe at IHG.

“In Germany, we believe that the brand has the potential to be an important mainstream growth vehicle, with both compelling consumer demand and owner interest.”

Avid Hotels, launched by IHG last year, has more than 170 signings in North America and has recently announced plans to open 15 more hotels in Germany. IHG has named Germany one of five priority markets, with 132 hotels open or in the works since 2015.
