Etihad Airways celebrates its 15th birthday this month, and is marking the occasion with a loyalty miles giveaway.

The carrier commenced operations on November 5, 2003, with an A330-200 flight between Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, followed by regular scheduled services to Beirut on November 12 of the same year.

To celebrate the milestone the airline is giving away a total of 1.5 million Etihad Guest miles, with customers booking flights between now and November 15 (for travel until June 15, 2019) being placed into a draw to win one of 15 prizes of 100,000 miles.

Note that the miles will only be credited to the member’s account once their flights have been completed – full terms and conditions can be seen here.

Meanwhile Etihad is also marking the anniversary with a series of limited edition cabin crew scarves and ties, featuring a geometric pattern inspired by the Yas Marina Formula 1 Circuit.

Cabin crew will sport a purple design throughout November, while cabin managers will wear a yellow version, and food and beverage managers a white design.

The scarves and ties were created by Belgian-American fashion designer Diane Von Furstenberg, and unveiled at a recent event at the Louvre Abu Dhabi.

Since its inception Etihad has grown to operate a fleet of 110 Airbus and Boeing aircraft, flying to 84 passenger and cargo destinations.

In recent times the airline has been forced to make cutbacks, following loses of US$1.5 billion for its core airline operations in 2017.

In April Etihad announced the suspension of routes to Edinburgh and Perth, and recently added a seat selection fee for economy passengers travelling on certain fares.

The carrier has also launched a hand baggage only fare in an attempt to compete with the growing low-cost airline sector.
