International Airlines Group (IAG) carrier Level is to move its flights from Barcelona to the San Francisco area, from Oakland International to San Francisco International.

Business Traveller was alerted to the news by industry website routesonline.com, and this page on the Level website now confirms the switch, which will take place from October 28.

Oakland International is situated around 16km from downtown Oakland, and across the bay from San Francisco. It is used by low-cost carriers including Norwegian and Spirit, as well as for BA’s current service from Gatwick airport (which is being suspended for the winter season on October 20).

The airport markets itself as “The best way to San Francisco Bay”.

San Francisco International is a major European gateway, and the second largest airport in California after Los Angeles International. The airport is located around 21km south of downtown San Francisco.

IAG’s Level subsidiary launched in June 2017, with current and future routes from its Barcelona base to Buenos Aires, Boston, LA and San Francisco.

The carrier is also set to launch flights from Paris Orly to Montreal, Point-a-Pitre (Guadeloupe), Fort-de-France (Martinique) and New York Newark.
