Hong Kong Airlines has signed a codeshare agreement with Air Astana, meaning its customers can now travel with the Kazakhstani carrier to Almaty in Kazakhstan, while Air Astana passengers can book tickets with both airlines to reach Hong Kong Airlines’ destinations in China, Indonesia, Japan, Taiwan and Vietnam.
The codeshared Hong Kong (HKG) to Almaty (ALA) flight (KC929/HX1929) departs every Tuesday and Friday at 0035, arriving in Almaty at 0825. The return flight KC930/HX1930 then leaves Almaty at 0940, arriving in Hong Kong at 1455 – a flight time of 7 hours 15 minutes.
Air Astana’s HKG-ALA service was launched in August 2012, and uses a B757 aircraft configured with 16 business class and 150 economy seats (see T&T review here).
Li Dianchun, CCO of Hong Kong Airlines, said: We are delighted to start our partnership with Air Astana to extend our network farther to Almaty, the trading and cultural hub of Kazakhstan. Our two airlines have a lot in common, both are young and committed to delivering quality products and service as Skytrax 4-star airlines.”
Hong Kong SAR passport holders are able to travel to Kazakhstan visa free, as are Kazakhstani citizens visiting Hong Kong.
In other news, Air Astana has also partnered with Air France and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, which will see the two carriers place their marketing codes on the Kazakhstan airline’s three-times weekly service between Astana and Paris from March 11.
The three carriers have also executed baggage and passenger transfer agreements; and the operations of Air Astana flights at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport will also transfer from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2a for more convenient connections of passengers to the Air France – KLM network.
