United Airlines has announced it will launch a non-stop daily service between San Francisco (SFO) and Singapore (SIN) on June 1, 2016. The first eastbound return flight will depart from Singapore on June 3.
The 16-hour, 20-minute westbound service from Singapore to the US will be the longest Dreamliner service in the world, while the eastbound flight will be slightly shorter, at 15 hours and 30 minutes.
The direct route will save travellers up to four hours each way, compared to United’s current service between the two locations, which requires a transfer at Tokyo-Narita.
With the launch of the non-stop route United will discontinue its service between Singapore and Tokyo on June 2, 2016; however, the airline will continue its daily service between Singapore and Chicago (via Hong Kong).
The new SIN-SFO service will feature a 252-seat Boeing 787-9 in a two-class configuration, and the flight schedule has been timed with business travellers’ needs in mind.
Flight UA2 will depart Singapore’s Changi Airport at 0845, arriving in San Francisco at 0915. Meanwhile the return flight UA1 will depart the US city at 2325, landing in Singapore at 0645 – two days later.
Lim Ching Kiat, CAG’s senior vice president, market development, said: “Singapore and the US enjoy strong trade flows and business ties, with many US multinational corporations basing their Asian or regional headquarters in Singapore.
"United Airline's new non-stop service to San Francisco will bring greater convenience especially to business travellers, who can use United's hub in San Francisco to connect to 26 major US cities, such as Seattle, Las Vegas and Denver.”
