United Airlines has received the go-ahead from the US to operate non-stop flights between its San Francisco hub and Chengdu. The American carrier is now awaiting a similar decision from the Chinese government.
As reported previously by Business Traveller Asia-Pacific, United applied to the US Department of Transportation back in August this year seeking approval to service the route. For a more detailed report, please see here.
Subject to final approval from China, the airline will begin services on June 9 next year. It intends to use the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner to operate the three-times weekly service to Chengdu.
United currently operates seven Dreamliner in its fleet and has an additional 58 on order. The airline expects to take delivery of one more 787-8 by the end of 2013.
