Etihad Airways has expanded its codeshare agreement with Korean Air to include six new destinations.
As reported earlier by Business Traveller Asia-Pacific, both carriers established a codeshare pact in July (see here), which has led to Korean Air placing its "KE" code on Etihad's daily services between Seoul (Incheon) and Abu Dhabi.
Now, as part of the second phase of cooperation, Etihad will place its "EY" code on Korean Air services from Seoul (Incheon) to Honolulu, Vancouver and Hong Kong.
"The three new codeshare destinations enhance Etihad Airways’ business and leisure travel offering to the Asia Pacific and North America," said Etihad Airways president and chief executive officer James Hogan.
"The flights to Honolulu and Vancouver, in particular, will provide convenient one-stop access from Abu Dhabi to these two popular North American destinations."
Similarly, the agreement means that Korean Air will also place its "KE" code on Etihad operated flights from Abu Dhabi to Johannesburg, Muscat and, subject to government approval, Khartoum.
In addition, the codesharing agreement entitles top-tier members of both airlines' loyalty programmes (Etihad Guest and Korean Air Skypass) to reciprocity benefits, including lounge access, priority check-in and extra baggage allowances. All members are also allowed to earn and redeem frequent flyer points on all Etihad Airways and Korean Air flights.
