British Airways will launch a weekly London Heathrow to Gran Canaria service from later this year.
The winter route will run every Saturday from October 26 to March 29.
The service, which can now be booked online, will be operated by an Airbus A320.
Andrew Crawley, British Airways’ chief commercial officer, said: “Gran Canaria is just the latest leisure destination added to our expanding route network, following on from recent launches to Sri Lanka, Tenerife, Lanzarote and Seoul.
“We are confident that offering the only direct route from Heathrow, and the award-winning Terminal 5, to Gran Canaria will prove popular with our customers.”
BA is also starting a new direct route from Gatwick to Larnaca, Cyprus.
The three times-a-week service starts from June 30 and is in addition to the existing daily flight from Heathrow.
The news comes two months after it was announced that BA Cityflyer is to launch year-round flights from London City to Granada from July 25 (see online news, March 19).
