IHG to add 19 Holiday Inn Express hotels in India

6 Apr 2011 by BusinessTraveller

Intercontinental Hotels Groups has announced plans to open19 Holiday Inn Express properties in India by 2016, with the first hotel expected to open in mid-2012.

The joint venture partnership with Duet India Hotels Group will see IHG invest US$30million in the properties, and adds to the four Holiday Inn Express hotels currently under development through an agreement with Delhi-based developer Amrapali Group (see online news October 28, 2010).

Specific locations have yet to be disclosed, although IHG said that the properties will be “primarily located in India's major metros and key secondary cities, which are well positioned to drive growth and continued investment opportunities including New Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore”.

The group says it is on track to have 150 hotels in India by 2020, with upcoming openings including the Crowne Plaza New Delhi Rohini, set to open later this year (see online news April 5).

The news follows Wyndham Hotel Group’s announcement of seven new properties across India for its Ramada and Days Inn brands (see online news April 5), and Starwood’s plan to debut its W Hotels brand in India in 2015 (see online news April 6).
