    According to Syteam´s website……………..

“SkyTeam welcomes ITA Airways on board”. (Skyteam website)

AMSTERDAM, 29 October 2021 – “SkyTeam, the global airline alliance, has welcomed ITA Airways – Italy’s new national carrier – into the alliance, replacing Alitalia. With ITA Airways on board, SkyTeam’s 700 million customers will continue to enjoy seamless connections to key destinations across Italy.”

It that is the case how is it then that almost one month later (24-11-21) in the list of members ITA does not appear but Alitalia does appear? Or is that just plain sloppiness.

Anyway from that we get the first signs of co-operation between ITA and Delta – now supposedly both members of Skyteam.

….These codeshares will enable ITA to fly into Cancun, Mexico City and Monterrey while Delta will fly into Cairo and Tunis

Yet in the Business Traveller copy we quoted ITA Airways board member Alfredo Altavilla as saying the airline’s arrangement was signed for a period of one year.

Of course airlines of rival alliances can and do code share from time to time.

So we shall have to see how this develops.

News that ITA Airways is to receive the first of four A350s in June 2022.

One of the first routes on which they will be deployed will be Rome-Buenos Aires.

The A350 can operate this route non-stop whereas the existing A330s in the fleet would have to stop en route.

This recently set-up airline is already expanding.

“ITA Airways Firms Up Order For 28 Airbus Aircraft”.
“The airline currently flies 18 A319s, 27 A320ceos and seven A330s. While the airline has made noises about fleet renewal in the past, the release from Airbus states that, “These new Airbus aircraft will expand the initial ITA Airways fleet with a new generation aircraft with better environmental performance.” This suggests that this purchase is more about fleet building at present than it is about replacing old with new.” (Simple Flying 1-12-21)

ITA is extending its commercial agreements. It seems that it is serious in wanting to gain passengers and expand.
“KLM, ITA sign codeshare agreement”, (Airways Magazine, 3-12-21)

KLM, ITA Airways Sign Codeshare Agreement

I wonder if this agreement will be accompanied by another with Air France, and also ITA´s alliance partner Delta (as announced previously on 24th November).

The agreement should be taken into consideration with the recent signing of a codeshare agreement with Air Serbia.

Tarom should follow on after that.

    No, sorry Sir.
Having lived a 1/3rd of my life in Italy and still having many, many business colleagues and friends there who despair at the wastefulness of their tax money.
There is nothing positive to say about Alitalia/ITA

And this remark is coming from a gentleman (I assume) with a very positive ‘moniker’ about Britain’s national airline, it’s very pride and Joy run by, in the main Spaniards and Irishmen.

As for being positive, try reading any comments I make, which I do frequently on many forums/sites about the very wonderful Qatar Airways, the true 5* airline.

ITA currently uses 68 weekly Heathrow slots inherited from Alitalia but since these are leased from Etihad it must hand them back 27th March 2022 next. That leaves the Italian airline with no slots at Heathrow. Does that mean the recent codeshare agreement between ITA and Etihad will renew the leasing of those slots at Heathrow to ITA?

Alitalia’s London Heathrow Slots Will Return To Etihad In March

Alitalia had 72 weekly London City slots. What will happen to them since ITA does not have the aircraft to fly there?

Now that IAG has been liberated from its takeover contract with Air Europa, will ITA be its next target?
Air Europa is most likely to end up in Air France´s pocket as they are both in the same alliance, but also Air France was trying to establish a stronger working relationship with Air Europa before IAG´s offer. Obviously the epidemic has changed everything so that nothing is the same. However, I envisage that Air France will try to do the same as before the epidemic. As a counter measure taking out a member of Skyteam to compensate is more than likely by IAG. ITA seems to be the most vulnerable.
It is an airline that is trying hard to re-establish itself. Apparently it has already offered itself to Lufthansa. In whose hands will it end up?

It’s reported from France that all new aircraft for ITA Airways will carry the name of great Italian sportsmen.

The list of airlines getting interested in ITA is growing….

“Lufthansa Group might acquire up to 40% of ITA Airways,” (Aviation24.be 9-1-22)

Lufthansa Group might acquire up to 40% of ITA Airways

….which have to be compared to this publication which beat the other two by two days…
“Lufthansa Could Buy Up To 40% Of ITA Airways,” (Simple Flying, 7-1-22)

Lufthansa Could Buy Up To 40% Of ITA Airways

The nitty gritty boils down to the fact whether ITA stays in Skyteam, with Air France/KLM, Delta and Virgin Atlantic, or joins Lufthansa in Star Alliance.
A deciding factor might well be competition issues raised on Germany to Italy routes since Lufthansa already owns Italian operator Air Dolomiti. There could well be a protracted fight over this airline, ITA.
