SimonS1ParticipantAnthony – this is the site I am looking at. I don’t see many (or any) cancellations. Indeed a few diversions etc but invariably a plane subsequently sent to recover the passengers. Any delays are annoying but better than cancellations IMHO.
Check my earlier post about Titan and you will see that I had never heard of them, that’s why I was asking. As above, better to lease a plane and deliver the schedule. No problems with that. Of course with EZY flying more people than BA and Iberia combined that might be expected at the peak of summer. I would hardly call it ‘propping up the schedule’ bearing in mind the number of flights they operate.

You make a very compelling argument! 🙂
In which case, why the constant background drone (the comment is NOT labelled directly at you BTW) about anything and everything involving BA from the colour and fabric of the hand wipes to the off-duty pranks and idiocies (completely unrelated to the company) of some of its staff? It is just relentless, monotonous and reminds me of how sections of “opinion” were determined to have it in for the UK car industry. So what is left is now entirely foreign-owned. That’s my gripe of the day over with.

ImissConcordeParticipantGoodness! So this sort of thing doesn’t just happen to B.A. then?

As someone with a pilots licence and complex and hi-performance aircraft endorsements, given the choice between flaps stuck at take off settings an a problematic main gear, the former would be my choice to deal with.
It would require re-computing the approach speed (higher) to allow for the reduced lift and considerations would include a runway long enough for the extra ground roll and with a geography that catered for a shallower approach (the latter would be 99% likely to be catered for at most airports.) I’d be in control all the way to parkign on stand and shutting down.
Landing with a dodgy main gear infinitely more concerning, as if collapses suddenly, then one has lost control of the aircraft and the dice will fall as they fall.
In terms of BA vs DL, both events are random system failures, so yes it happens to BA as well as DL and DL as well as BA.
Edited to add that this is a main gear problem at LHR, very well handled by VS and the fire services.

Aren’t there some plates that need laying? Now be a good FA and run along and attend to them. 😉

Papillion53ParticipantScott72 – don’t worry about FDoS or STU or DoS as he was before the two former! He does love to come away with his little quips! 😉 🙂
When STU StandingThemUp first appeared I knew immediately who he was re-invented! Well, it made me laugh as I thought finally a sense of humour, but no apparently it is some aircraft technical flying term as I was told. I, of course, thought, like most people I’m sure, that he was having a mid-life crisis with a throw back to his mis-spent yoooth! 😉 🙂
So just make sure Scott72 when you are laying those plates you will be StandingThemUp straight! LOL!

The low power pause, Papillon, on a multi engine aircraft.
Otherwise might be ‘hello grass.’

It seems BA has gear and flap retraction challenges too.

Of course, but with what frequency?
BA seems to have a major challenge with the 747 fleet, I’m not implying they’re unsafe, but there is a serious question mark about reliability at the moment.
