yawn…why does everything end up in a “heated exchange of opinion”

its a nice advert, who really gives a S*** if its overhype, biased or even 100% accurate.

fact is, its a nice advert and follows a path set by many others of looking back to the roots to try to rebuild a dented brand name. most of the major Auto manufacturers have done similar, i believe vauxhall is still running thiers.

Open question: why do ads have to be based entirely in PC-based reality? Discuss.

Interesting JD, but seriously who knows? I guess its pressure because if ads don’t then the co will get sued for false advertising and gives the public the impression the company has no sense of corp social responsibility then competitors pick up on that and play that to their advantage.

For some reason I cannot fathom, I have always been incredibly loyal to BA despite the crap service.

It may well be a great Ad Campaign, but unless someone tells the ground staff and cabin crew that they really have to deliver I fear that is this another over promise and under deliver scenario. Shame

I guess Flashman and Peter Mandelson also had their proponents.

Thankfully, after a protracted and pointless hissy-fit by the dinosaurs, BA’s CEO has re-asserted control over cabin crew.

This, coupled with improved training starting in October, should have the desired effect.

The most impactful and memorable events are ones that stimulates many senses, for ads it is -Sight and Sound

BA succeeded with the 1994 Eye Wink

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8PF8Rek9Ok

As did Virgin – twice, firstly with Relax (Quarter of a million hits)

    then a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new life… and I’m feeling good.

The new BA ad fails the soundtrack test.

Cannot sleep so here’s an Air NZ campaign about pricing integrity that has a different twist for eagle eyed viewers…

And for even more eagle-eyed viewers…..

Air New Zealand Terms and conditions:
For credit or other card payments, a fee of $30 per person per return journey applies. Fares are shown in New Zealand Dollars unless otherwise specified. Fares displayed at the beginning of the booking process exclude applicable airport and government costs which will be displayed separately once an itinerary is selected.

Which is why they made the commercial – remember “Whisperliners”, the noisiest planes in the sky!

Not sure that I follow, RichHI1.

The NZ ad says that ‘the price you see is the price you pay.’ Except that, per their own terms and conditions, it isn’t.

And I’m guessing that you mean the BAe146 Whisperjet:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Aerospace_146

    – which really was relatively quiet when it first flew in the early 80s, especially compared to the DC-9s, BAC 1-11s and 727s which preceded it.

Nope I mean the big campaign for the Eastern Airlines L1011 (BA had some tristars too) which were heralded as noise emission compliant but passengers found the cabins noisy with the Rolls Rolls jets. Everyone said they were so noisy, so the Marketing Boys called them Whisperliners. Here we have Air New Zealand with taxes and credit card surcharges (like BA and others) so rather than get rid of the charges they run a big campaign saying they have nothing to hide. Old Marketign ploy making a strength out of your weakness. Harder for the competition to attack you.

Was this a marketing ploy or an embarrassing execution error by BA’s production company, caught on the eve of transmission of the new ad.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2041597/The-20m-new-BA-promotion-campaign–uses-rival-Virgin-plane.html

using a Virgin Atlantic 747-400 with BA logos cgi overlaid … ouch.

Guess they couldn’t find one of their own outside T5 so photoshopped someone elses. The usual form over substance.
They should have used the soundtrack too..
    a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new life… and I’m feeling good

Sounds like a dodgy aegncy to me.
Heck if James Cameron can flip a shot of Titanic so the name is displayed backwards what is a registration number here or there? There is so much CGI nowadays it is not like you are changing reality. They probably just changed the Registration number and used same plane.
I really do not understand why you run your crusade…
