    How irresponsible can you get. Is ESSELLE some juvenile who doesn’t realise the danger of smoking on an aircraft – and what about the crew. Hope the CAA picks this up

    Hey all,

    A quick update on 767 (longhaul) retirement.

    7 of the 14 aircraft will leave the fleet by the end of next year.

    The 767 will disappear completely by 2017.

    Not sure on the shorthaul 767 situation but assume they will be filtered out by 2017 as well as BA will not want dedicated maitenence facilities for an old aircraft with only a few of the type.

    @GrahamWilkinson

    What dangers of smoking are you talking about?

    Until the late 1990ies smoking was allowed an all airlines, after that political correctness changed that.
    But where is the danger? Or can you name a case that smoking caused a plane crash?

    There are still some airlines where smoking is still permitted.

    I don’t want to look in a mirror too closely but it is not unheard of for the flight crew to have a sneaky one up front as well.

    Varig Flight 820 near Orly in 1973. Inflight fire originating in lavatory was probably caused by a cigarette.
