The former Best Western Burns Hotel Kensington is set to reopen as the boutique Ellen Kensington following a full refurbishment.

The 105-room hotel is housed within five Victorian townhouses on Barkston Gardens, just a few minutes’ walk from Earl’s Court Underground station.

The property is located next to Hotel Indigo London Kensington – which opened back in 2012 – and around the corner from The Resident Kensington (which started life as The Nadler Kensington and was reviewed by Business Traveller in 2015).

Owner KOP Properties has stripped back to remove all non-structural elements, with original features including period bannisters and wrought iron gate rails restored, and high ceilings and bay box sash windows reinstated.

Half of the hotel’s rooms overlook Barkston Gardens, and the property will feature a pan-Asian restaurant with private terrace, as well as a destination bar, fitness centre, wellness treatment rooms and a self-service laundry.

The hotel’s name is a tribute to Victorian era British stage actress Dame Ellen Terry, who lived at 22 Barkston Gardens.

The property will be managed by KOP’s Montigo Resorts subsdiary, joining the group’s existing Montigo Resorts Somerset at Charlton House which opened last year.

Reservations for Ellen Kensington will open in mid-May, with an opening date targeted for this summer.
