Hilton has opened the 3,000th hotel under its select service Hampton by Hilton brand.

The brand started life in 1984 as Hampton Inn (meaning it is also celebrating its 40th anniversary this year), and was acquired by Hilton in 1999 when the group purchased the Promus Hotel Corporation.

The UK’s first Hampton by Hilton property opened in Corby in 2009, and the brand celebrated the milestone of 2,500 hotels in 2019.

Five years later this figure has reached 3,000 – around 40 per cent of Hilton’s entire portfolio and way ahead of the group’s next largest brand, Hilton Garden Inn, which has around 1,000 properties.

Hilton is not saying exactly which hotel was number 3,000, stating simply that several new properties are “sharing the spotlight”.

These include the Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Shenandoah The Woodlands in Texas, Hampton by Hilton Istanbul Sirkeci, Hampton by Hilton Kuwait Salmiya, Hampton by Hilton Guangzhou Xintang Railway Station, Hampton by Hilton Chongqing Changshou Lake, and Hampton Inn by Hilton Saline in Michigan.

The brand also recently opened its third central London hotel, with the unveiling of the 109-room Hampton by Hilton London Old Street on Westland Place, around five minutes’ walk from Old Street station.

Upcoming openings in 2024 include Hampton by Hilton Malaga Martinicos, Hampton by Hilton Bordeaux Centre Meriadeck, and Hampton by Hilton Sandton Grayston in Johannesburg.

Last month Hilton unveiled a new North American prototype for the brand, with features including “a multi-functional task table, improved bathroom design, enlarged windows to increase natural light, and optimized in-room guest storage solutions”.
