Hilton has confirmed plans to open a DoubleTree property within an existing building adjacent to Bramall Lane – home to Sheffield United Football Club.

The building previously operated as the Copthorne Hotel Sheffield in 2008, but the hotel closed in June 2020 as part of a court order which saw Prince Abdullah awarded sole ownership of Sheffield United.

Work has now begun to convert the property into the DoubleTree by Hilton Sheffield City, with an opening date scheduled for late summer.

The 155-room hotel will feature a penthouse suite, fitness centre, and events space for up to 300 guests.

The DoubleTree by Hilton Sheffield City will join the DoubleTree by Hilton Sheffield Park and Hampton by Hilton Sheffield as the third Hilton-branded hotel in the city.

The group previously operated the Hilton Sheffield overlooking the canal in the city’s Victoria Quays, but this property closed in late 2019 and subsequently becameThe Quays Hotel Sheffield.

Commenting on the news Stephen Bettis, CEO, Sheffield United FC, said:

“We are thrilled to welcome the DoubleTree by Hilton to our prestigious and historic Bramall Lane stadium. This new addition will further enhance the matchday experience for our supporters and contribute to the ongoing development of the S2 area. The return of the hotel is welcomed by everyone at the Football Club.”
