Hilton has announced an expansion of its Doubletree brand in Europe, with six additions in Italy, France, Romania, Hungary, the Netherlands and Germany.

Three of the properties have opened in the last couple of months, including the 90-room Doubletree by Hilton Sittard in the Netherlands, which is housed within an historic building and features an all day dining French restaurant, and a bar situated within the property’s former chapel.

Doubletree by Hilton Hannover Schweizerhof also opened in December 2021, and is the group’s first hotel in the German city. Features of the 200-room property include a bistro restaurant and bar, 880 sqm of meeting space, and wellness and spa facilities.

This opening follows the debut of the Doubletree brand in Germany last summer, with the unveiling of the Doubletree by Hilton Frankfurt Niederrad – a conversion of the former Innside by Melia Frankfurt Niederrad.

Meanwhile last month also saw the opening of the Doubletree by Hilton Lyon Eurexpo, the brand’s first property in France. The hotel is situated within the Saint-Priest Technological Park, close to the Lyon Eurexpo Exhibition Centre , and features 141 rooms, four meeting spaces and a fitness centre.

Future openings include the Doubletree by Hilton Milan Malpensa Solbiate Olona, which is set to open this April and will offer 246 rooms and seven meeting spaces. The property will join seven other Doubletree hotels currently operating in Italy.

Further ahead Hilton will open its first Doubletree hotel in Hungary in 2023, with the opening of the Doubletree by Hilton Budapest Buda Hills Hotel and Residences in the Posingermajor district of the capital, and in 2024 the group will also open its first hotel in the Romanian city of Brasov, with features including a sky bar and casino.

Initially a US-focused brand, Hilton opened its first UK Doubletree in 2008, and now has over 120 hotels across Europe, with a further 37 expected to open in the next five years.

Commenting on the news Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president, development, EMEA, Hilton, said:

“Since its arrival in Europe in 2008, Doubletree by Hilton has continued to lead the way for European upscale growth, now operating in 19 countries with plans to launch in seven more in the coming years.

“A brand highly suited to capture owner demand for conversion properties, Doubletree by Hilton’s considerable global reputation and loyal customer base makes the brand an attractive opportunity for development.

“With Hilton reaching 600 hotels across Europe, Middle East and Africa, 140 of which are under Doubletree by Hilton, these six hotels are strategically located to capture the growth in consumer preference and business demands while marking an entry for Hilton into new destinations.”
