The Lufthansa Group has confirmed the launch destinations for its subsidiary Lufthansa City Airlines.

The short-haul airline will launch flights with A319 aircraft from Munich to the German destinations of Berlin, Hamburg, Bremen, Dusseldorf, Cologne and Hanover, as well as services to Birmingham and Manchester in the UK, and Bordeaux in France.

While an exact date has not yet been given for the first flight, Lufthansa says that it is set to take place in summer 2024 and that flights can be booked from the end of April.

The carrier plans to expand its network and offer further destinations in Europe in the future.

The first two of four Airbus A319 aircraft to be deployed this year have been painted in the new Lufthansa City livery. The group is also expanding its fleet, ordering 40 A220-300 aircraft and a further 20 purchase options.

Lufthansa City Airlines reiterated in the press release that the “competitive strengthening of the short-haul network is essential for strengthening the Lufthansa Group’s market position and the planned growth of Lufthansa long-haul routes”.

The airline was founded in 2022 and received its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the German Federal Aviation Authority in June 2023.
