Lufthansa has launched its “new” route between Frankfurt and Hyderabad, with a thrice-weekly service operated by the carrier‘s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.
I say “new” because Lufthansa has served the route previously, albeit not since 2011.
In April last year the carrier announced plans to expand its India network, with new routes from Munich to Bangalore and Frankfurt to Hyderabad.
The Munich-Bangalore service launched in November 2023, with Frankfurt-Hyderabad following this week. There are currently no other nonstop passenger services on either route.
They join Lufthansa’s existing routes from Frankfurt to Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai, and from Munich to Delhi and Mumbai.
The airline said that India was now its fastest growing major market, with capacity growth exceeding pre-pandemic levels.
“With our new Hyderabad-Frankfurt service we now offer Indian passengers 64 weekly flights to our hubs in Europe and onward connections to the biggest network on the European continent,” said George Ettiyil, senior director South Asia, Lufthansa Group.
“As we launch Hyderabad, our capacity to India has increased by 14 per cent (relative to 2019), making it the fastest growing major market for Lufthansa.
“With Bangalore-Munich and now Hyderabad-Frankfurt services, we have launched two new routes in the past three months, recognizing South India’s growing relevance and demonstrating the strong overall importance of India to the Lufthansa Group.”
